Sanctity of Life Sunday

Throughout generations, people have made decisions and choices that stand for or stand against “life.” In 1984, President Reagan issued a proclamation that designated January 22 as National Sanctity of Human Life Day. This particular date was chosen as it marked the day that the U.S. Supreme Court made abortion-on-demand legal in all 50 states (January 22, 1973), a decision reversed in 2022 after many years of prayer.
As believers in Christ, we stand for life as a way of life. We hold the lives and value of others in high regard, even at the sacrifice of ourselves.
Being for-life is not just about a statement or what we believe; it’s about how we live, our actions, and our words. It requires that we see others, especially the vulnerable, as image bearers of a holy God –  championing, celebrating, protecting and fighting for their life.
In recognizing Sanctity of Life Sunday, we invite you to two specific action points:
1. Continue to pray for life! We believe in the power of prayer, corporate prayer (unity) and declaring prayer out loud for the world both physical and spiritual realm to hear. Here is an example of a prayer you can pray:

Dear Heavenly Father,
You are the Creator of all and the Giver of life. You have created humankind in your image to reflect your glory to the world, and we praise you for the very good work that your hands have done. We mourn that many of your precious sons and daughters have lost their lives too soon. We grieve and recognize their absence today and every day. We are broken people and have all sinned against you in some way, so we humbly come before you and ask that you would forgive us of our sins through the blood of Jesus Christ. We seek forgiveness on behalf of those who have lost their lives, and forgiveness on behalf of those who have contributed to the loss of lives, whether consciously or unconsciously. Open our eyes, our hearts, our minds, and our hands to serve and glorify you through our love for one another. Father, would increase our empathy, compassion, and love for the vulnerable, no matter their age, race, ability, background, or need. Empower us with the courage to speak out on behalf of the most vulnerable, fighting any and all injustice against them, loving and serving them with humility and compassion. May we stand for what you have taught us, and may we give you glory in all that we do. Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, in us, through us, and in the name of Life.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.
