CCF Family Lent Challenge

February 19 - April 8 2023

At CCF we are always seeking to find active ways to engage our kids and youth in church wide events.

Below are some kid and youth friendly ideas to help your students join in with our Fasting Series.

Each week has several suggested options to choose from to get your kids and youth involved. Feel free to do just one each week or challenge your family by doing several!

We are looking forward to hearing the testimonies that come from families participating in this holistic experience together!

Feb. 19th – 25th: “I am the Bread of Life”

  • Give up desserts for this week
  • Give up eating out for this week
  • Give up soda or sugar drinks for this week

Feb. 26th – March 4th: “I am the Light of the World”

  • Give up one form of screen for the week (ipad, computer, gaming console, etc)
  • Give up TV after a certain time for the week: example – after 5pm no more screens.
  • Only watch TV as a family, not individually: example – watch a family movie together.
  • Play a family game each evening this week by candlelight instead of screens.

March 5th – 11th: “I am the Gatekeeper”

  • Bake and bring a plate of cookies to your neighbors this week.
  • Go on family walks and count how many people you can say hi to.
  • Have a family over for dinner this week.

March 12th – 18th: “I am the Good Shepherd”

  • Read Psalm 23 as a family everyday
  • Do an art project with Psalm 23 as the focus like this one.

March 19th – 25th: “I am the Resurrection and the Life”

  • Encourage youth to write a lament about something from their personal lives they’re grieving or are angry about. If they are willing, talk about the lament together.
  • Spend some time as a family writing or drawing your own laments. Use this for a helpful template for your kids.

March 26th – April 1st: “I am the Way, Truth and Life”

  • Spend some intentional time each evening this week talking about each person’s day. Have each person say at least one truth God taught them that day.
  • Play some “true or false” games with simple Biblical principles: example- true or false, God loves us?

April 2nd – 8th: “I am the True Vine”

  • Get the whole family involved in volunteering one time this week: compassion center, picking up trash in your neighborhood, greeters for one of the Easter services, etc.
  • Deliver Easter eggs filled with candy and an invitation to our Easter service to your neighbors!
